“What a tonic for a horrendous week at work!?! Airsports Sussex promise you a smile and they deliver! I felt safe, well instructed, it was fun and it was a real pleasure to be around people who are clearly passionate about what they do.
We travelled down from Norfolk and wondered if we’d get there and have to turn back due to the weather but all of those things were considered, as best they could be, by the team to avoid a wasted journey. A very considerate, friendly service.
It was such a good experience! A great birthday present! I would definitely do it again and would highly recommend Airsports Sussex.
Thank you for looking after us for the day :)”

“I had a fantastic tandem flight with Matt this weekend. Incredibly, by the time we took off I wasn’t even a little bit nervous – Matt’s expertise, utter calm and proficiency made me feel completely safe.
Being up in the air was incredible, and like nothing I’ve experienced before. This tandem flight was a fantastic opportunity to find out how it feels to fly like a bird while relying on someone else’s skills, and I’m hungry for more!”

“What an awesome experience. Really felt safe and relaxed with the pilot. He explained everything so well that I felt calm and confident. Loved the feel of freedom and stunning views. One of my most memorable moments. If you are thinking of giving this a try I would recommend it to anyone. You will love it.”

I am Matt Lewis, owner and Chief Flying Instructor for Airsports Sussex and currently the most experienced Hang Gliding Instructor in the UK. I've had the pleasure of 25 years experience flying solo, tandem and teaching internationally. I am proud to have been Chief Flying Instructor and owner of Airsports Sussex for the last 10 years. Before that, as well as international work I was Senior Instructor for the renowned South Downs Hang gliding School working with John Barratt, now retired, my mentor and friend.
I find the spirit of hang gliding constantly awe-inspiring.
It has given me a totally different perspective on fear and on my ideas about what I can and can't achieve in my life. By stepping through fear and taking on the challenge of free flight I have found a beautiful state of mind.
You are in the best hands. I have thousands of hours of flying experience, have taken hundreds of tandems and taught hundreds of people to fly, including almost all of the current hang glider pilots flying in the UK, as well as competing internationally.
I am also known as Silverback Tarzan and am a social media influencer talking about real health from the ground up.
I look forward to seeing the pilots of the future and helping them achieve their potential.
John Barratt
John Barratt has been Chief Flying Instructor of South Downs Hang Gliding, the parent school of Airsports Sussex, for over 25 years. Mentor and friend to Matt Lewis for 10 years he now comes out with Airsports Sussex to lend his expert hand and also continues to use his wealth of experience to run South Downs Hang Gliding as a glider sales and maintenance company.
We are lucky to have him on board.
